As someone who is proud to come from Barnsley, it’s great to work closely with local employers and schools on projects that support and enthuse young people. I have worked for Barnsley Council for over ten years and am currently involved in the delivery of the I Know I Can range of projects, such as the IKIC Big Challenge enterprise competition. It’s essential that employers are involved in inspiring young people about their future choices, which is why I’m looking forward to working as the Enterprise Coordinator for Barnsley.

I have had a varied working life, starting with HM Forces and as a qualified adult teacher within Doncaster local authority.  I assumed the role of quality manager in 2012 and since then  I have supported the service through two successful Ofsted inspections that have been integral to development of the adult learning and apprenticeship delivery in Doncaster.  My team now includes participation and transition, tracking and supporting NEETs aged 16-19, and is part of a wider service that incorporates Business Enterprise.  I feel passionate about giving people of all ages access to skills and in particular for young people  to have the opportunity for a career that will align to their aspirations.

I have spent the last ten years working in education, with a particular focus on supporting primary and secondary teachers to embed enterprise learning and employer engagement in the curriculum and school provision. My work involves helping school leaders and teachers improve the quantity and quality of enterprise and careers learning, and making better links between subjects and topics and the world of work and business. I enjoy seeing the impact this has on pupil motivation and achievement. I’m looking forward to helping facilitate more, and deeper, links between schools and the world of work and business through the Enterprise Advisers programme.
